1st amendment law says in a public place, recording can be done for profit or no profit...

many people tried to challange and have lost...the only time you have a right for legal action is false light...

the camera crews had permits and had the right to shoot sheriffs department and their actions...minors who are arrested usually will be masked if parents do not release them...

I'll second that... there's several shows that follow the "Cops" format. Or it could have been a documentary crew. So if anyone had a chance to ask them who they were with, pipe up. Or not, in the big picture it doesn't really matter anyway... they were there, pictures were taken, now it's over.

A couple observations from a TV news guy: One, there's some confusion over whether or not talent releases are required in those circumstances. The answer is, it depends on who's doing the taping. News crews don't need releases in public areas, and only need consent of property owner in private. The basic issue is whether or not the company doing the taping is using the images expressly for profit. If yes, then you have a right to be compensated for use of your likeness. BTW, minors in public places are like anybody else... public is public. No release or parental consent is required for news usage.

Two, about LEOs "dialing it up" for the camera: Sure, it happens all the time. But, based on my experience in similar situations... I'll be willing to bet your friend either had attitude or you got a cop having a bad day, probably a little bit of both. Sorry your friend got the short end of the stick, but if she hadn't been a minor with alcohol... :mischevious:

Third, the "LEO" Funco... FWIW the rangers at Glamis have two, they were donated by Funco and the ASA for rescue and enforcement purposes. As to whether or not tax dollars were used, it's really irrelevant. Tax dollars are used to buy trucks, and helicopters, and trailers.. all sorts of things they use at Dumont. If there's a demonstrable need for specialized equipment, I don't have a problem with my tax dollars being spent to buy it. I'm sure if you or someone you love was wadded up at the top of Comp, you'd want rescue to be able to reach you... and that POS standard travel car I saw on the way out Monday ain't gonna cut it. :headbang1:

BTW, I just wanted to add: Prez was my first trip to Dumont... Mikey likes it! :ninja: We'll see everybody out there again...

is dumont considered public land?

because we have to pay to get in...?

Yup. Public land. Owned by the US Government (us), managed by the BLM. The payment is to cover the added services.

The Funco was hired and paid for by the TV production company 100%. It was not a LEO vehicle.

Does anybody finish reading a thread before they reply anymore? Or is there an uncontrollable itch to hit the reply button regardless of how many reply's are after that?

How many times do I have to say it?

The crew I saw was in a silver and blue flamed Funco. Looked pretty nice to be a LEO buggy. I didn't know they had any custom painted buggies....

Tough crowd. My mistake....it looked just like the LE Funco at night. :ninja:

The Funcos following around the sheriffs are privatly owned cars hired by the production company not a dime of public funds were used.

I guess nobody reads what others bother to take the time to write. Thanks for clearing it up though.

Everyone seems like they are on edge lately. :mischevious:

Prez Weekend was my first time out at Dumont...mostly go to Glamis...

I have to say, The Cops out there were totally cool...At Comp, I was talking to the producer of the show...

they do Party Heat on True TV (the old Court TV)...they did a show in Havasu on the water

honestly they have every right to be out there doing their job as anybody at Vendors Row selling stuff...you people need to chill out and get a life...the law is the law...underage drinking is serious especially while driving...let your kid get hit by drunk driver out there and see if want the cops to help...if you think the cops are dicks there go to Glamis... :mischevious:

I have absolutely no beef with the cops out there. I ended up talking to a few of them and they were all pretty cool. They even hooked me up with some gas while I was looking for my truck.

I think everyone on this thread needs to chill out...instead of focusing on the negative why not talk about the good parts of a great weekend :ninja:

I witnessed the whole thing with the under age girl drinking she has a beer in plain site when the officer pulled up she did not even see him. the officer is talking to her not yelling or cussing as someone pointed out . And while the officer is talking to her two other guys in the group who were about two feet from the officer were arguing about something else between them that had nothing to do with the girl. The girl also was not 17 it turned out that she was only 15

gotta pay to get into the county fair, and thats public

dumont is owned by the BLM, which is all public land..

I'd just like to say that maybe the people filming don't have the intentions you think they do. like someone said

earlier it's a show called party heat on truTV and they were in lake havasu, check out those shows and you'll get an idea.

it's a very LEO focused show and what happens in dumont is what is shown. whether it be the good or the very few that are "bad". the LEO are just doing their job. that's what they film.

exactly...they are just doing their job.....a certain amount of azzhats don't like cops, and refuse to show respect to "THE MAN" regardless of the situation

i was raised "yes sir, no sir, yes maam no maam" when it comes to the po po

Thank you Mr. Cheese. The cops aren't going to make anything up. if you watch the show it's all about the

officers doing their job to keep the many safe but having to arrest the few. it is what it is. we all know that.

if these kids weren't at Dumont underage drinking, they'd be in their hometowns doing the same thing. there are certain rules that can't be broken, like telling the cops your 17 and then being 15 while drinking...not good for you. i think the LEO's do a great job balancing everything

I didnt get to make it to dumont this year but Id have to say theres usually 1000+ people at comp on a holiday weekend? You must be doing something out of the ordinary to get the cops to your spot. Everytime I got busted it was always for doing something stupid-fireworks burning, vw blocks, campfires that are way too big, shooting black powder potato cannon at neighbors camp etc....not just hangin out drinking a beer at comp.

I am just REALLY happy I didn't get a presidential motorcade into camp this time coming back from comp at night. :headbang1: That would have definitely made the TV show.:thumb:

This trip I left the truck hooked up to the trailer all weekend and it kept me outta trouble. Thanks for the ride to comp hill in the Funco, Joe Duner. I wasn't in any condition to drive anyways. :banghead:

your not understanding my point.

i agree that she was in the wrong.

i agree she deserved some sort of punishment.

i disagree with why the rangers treated her like sh*t because of the camera.

other people had been caught for this same offense and got a ticket and nothing more.

she got taken away in handcuffs like she just shot somebody because the camera's were there.thats my issue.the camera's have no business being there, and the rangers shouldnt be influenced as easily by them.

Possibly a pissy attitude?? Nothin' quicker to get a pissy attitude back atcha, especially in regards to the LAW!!

believe me, i like to have as much fun as anyone else, but for you to say that, after you posted about how many people in your camp got tickets, and underage drinking (i am assuming you are all underage, as you didnt mention anyone getting a contributing to the delinquency of a minor violation), IMO, a better choice could have been made...but thats just me

That's just the daddy in you talkin'!! post-1889-1203661874_thumb.gif post-1889-1203661902_thumb.gif

ya i suppose thats a good point. they just treated her very badly. and the reason i say its because of the camera is because between all the people i was camped with, like 5 people got underage drinking tickets, but she was the only one when the camera happened to be around, and got handcuffed, then arrested and taken away in the back of the cop car to the ranger station. not only that but she was being screamed at, cursed at, and just made to look like an example in front of everybody at comp. but everybody else got a 75$ underage drinking ticket and a 'good day' from the rangers. thats why i was upset with the mentality that the camera gave the officers.

Tyler so were you the really drunk one in the group that could hardly stand up, who by the way was riding a quad? I dont know why you think its ok to gett hammered and then get on a quad. Oh wait your young and think that your superman, just remember what happened to Christopher Reeves. How is that any diffrent than driving a car. Also you guys should feel lucky that all of you didnt get MIP's that night. We were all standing there when the cops showed and you all skattered like flys, stashing your beers under the truck and all. We were all kids once but atleast have a little common sense and dont drink in public and then be surprised that the cops nab you. I cant wait untill next year when this airs to see how it all looked on film. And what did your little friends parents think when they found out. I doubt they were happy with you or her.

Just think it was your 15 minutes of fame, I hope that you look good on film.

Sheeesh!

Ok......let me generalize then. The film crew was in the Funco that was owned by some law enforcement agency.....that is paid for by the public. That is a waste of public funds.

We talked with the rail driver and he was hired to take the Party Police people around. Look for it next year on court tv.

my issue was they were being overly abusive to her because that dumb @ss camera was there. cops are so fake. they do it all for show. and theres alot better things to do than bust a 17 year old girl for having a beer at dumont on presidents day weekend. :mischevious:

hmmmm. i personally cant think of a BETTER use of l.e.o. time than taking out a MINOR under the influence of alcohol at the dunes!! a huge percentage of accidents out there involve alcohol! sheesh! if you rode the dunes for a LIVING you would be a serious candidate for another tv show..."worlds most dangerous jobs". i'm sure i will get some sh*t for badmouthing alcohol in the dunes, probly from the type of guy that would give his 16 year old a bottle of whiskey with his new drivers liscence... and as for the guys in the funco(rented from funco for filming) that i talked to i distinctly remember "court tv" as part of the conversation. they also mentioned the same type of filming at the river with the cops....said it would be similar to the "cops" show on tv. bet the part where they were filming the female officer that tipped her quad over and pinned her under it near the north pole won't make the show. just more ammunition to make us look bad if yuh ask me(and yuh didn't).....just wish there was a way to make the drunks run into eachother instead of us sober people.

I dont know if any one posted on the Bronco that rolled over on that girl on Sunday night Prez weekend?

I hope the girl is OK she is friggen really tuff. Unbelieveable how she stayed really calm.

We were camped right below the accident. Two boys on quads came haulin a$$ into our camp and told us a Bronco had rolled and a girl was hurt really bad. So we followed the two boys to the Bronco and girl. She was about 15 feet from the Bronco laying on the ground. She broke both femurs and other injuries. I called 911 what a joke that was. They told me to have someone go to hi-way 127 and meet the ambulance. I tried telling the 911 operator that their was a Sheriff sub station out their, to connect them with me. I had the GPS cordinates. Or she could call them. We sent a friend to the sub station for help. The KEYSTONE Sheriffs showed up what a cluster %^$* that was. With the paramedics. The camera crew was there filming the injured girl. (Court TV). and the whole fiasco!!

I think every sheriff was there with no vehicle to transport her out. That old vw beam car with no way to haul her out. With the raise in the fees $40 per vehicle you would think they could afford a vehicle to get to and injured person out. Besides a quad so they can lookie loo. After they got her on the gourney they looked at our Rhino and said can we haul her out on that. We told them you can use it for what ever. At least a Glamis they have that Funco with a gourney spot on the passenger side. They carried her a good 1000 ft. up a hill and down the hill and put her in the back of a pickup truck in the bed. She was in some serious pain!! WTF. They drove her to the sub station in the back of that rough truck. She got air lifted from the sub station

The whole emergency escort was friggen stupid. I hope the Sheriffs department gets a hold of that video for some serious training.

Again I hope she is doing alright.

Again the funcos used were PRIVATLY owned and NOT rented from funco. And your right the part where the female officer tipped her quad over will NOT be shown as they were not filming at the time. Also did I mention that the funcos were privatly owned. And by the way the funcos were privatly owned .
