duneshredder911
I recently bought a 04 kawi 250f of one of my buddys real cheap....bike runs freakin great, pulls strong and pretty fast. I know 4strokes are a pain to start and he told me has always had problems starting that bike....it came to the point where the bike wouldnt start at al unless i push started it and it was still hard...i got the valves adjusted and bike would start right up with ease.I took it out in the hills the next day and after riding it for awile sometimes the bike would start and other times, i wouldnt at all like before the valves got adjusted..can anyone help me on this? maybe he screwed me on he valve job...? nofear245
A valve might be out of spec. and not closing all the way allowing alot of blow by. Hondas are notorious for their vavles, Havent heard anything on Kawis though.
duneshredder911
Ya I was thinkin somethin with the valves....would that be why its starts up pretty easy but after running it I need 2 let it sit for a loooong time before it wants 2 start
britincali
The first sign of needing a valve adjustment is being hard to start.
duneshredder911
The first sign of needing a valve adjustment is being hard to start. Ya that's what I figured but I just had them done a few weeks ago....so I think im gonna go back to the shop and tell the guy like wtf dude I no 4 strokes need valve adjustments a lot but I should get more than 2 rides out of it....lol
britincali
He could have adjusted them to tight or the valve seats are toast.
duneshredder911
That would realy suck if the valve seats are done
britincali
It could be something easy like a carb or plug issue, im just throwin stuff out there.

nofear245
Im a hardcore two stoke lover, simple, fast and they smell and sound beautiful Thats why you just have to have 1 of each, its like the best of both worlds. Might want to check your spark plug to, it might look clean but its not, mine went out on my 250f and that thing would not start at all, put a new plug in and fired on the first kick Edited October 23, 2008 by nofear245
superdave
valves. had the same problem with my kfx700. was running great for a number of dune trips but one trip it just wouldnt start at the end of the day for one last ride. wouldnt even start cold without a ton of cranking and fiddling with the throttle. its a pain in the butt getting feeler gauge into that motor so i cheated. i loosened the valves enough to get it started and let it run until it got hot. adjusted each valve to where i could just feel a little bit of play in each rocker arm. left it at that and it runs great. not very scientific but it works.
