Many
dedicated duners made it out this
year as usual to help with the
Dumont Cleanup. Thanks to the BLM,
this was a free weekend for all
those who made the trip. Some
managed to make a complete weekend
out of it and some just made it out
for the day to help out. Regardless,
it is always so great to see the
Dumont community pull together to
work towards a common goal for
something they love and to keep the
place clean.
Registration
Saturday
morning registration began at 8 AM
and duners started pouring in to
sign up. Everyone was given a raffle
ticket and some trash bags. The
weather was almost perfect. It was a
nice cool 63 degrees in the morning
and the wind was pretty calm up
until the afternoon. This year was
much nicer weather. At last year's
cleanup there were record breaking
temperatures as high as 113 degrees!
Trash Pickup
After
everyone was registered they headed
all over Dumont combing the sand for
trash. Some rode around on their
quads while others had trucks or
side by sides to transport multiple
bags at a time. Once all the trash
was collected, it was thrown into
the large dumpsters that were there
for the weekend. Every trash bag was
awarded a raffle ticket.
Lunch

Around 11:30/ 12:00, it was time for
lunch. The Barstow BLM grilled up
hundreds of hot dogs for
everybody and had plenty of
fruit,
bags of chips, and beverages to go
around.
Awards
After
everyone ate, Friends of Dumont
Dunes (FoDD) and
volunteers
began setting things up for the
raffle. Numerous prizes were donated
by local businesses and members of
DDR this year. Duners all gathered
around the stage as the
announcements began. FoDD did a
great job quickly getting all the
great raffle prizes out to the
winners. Trophies were awarded for
the following: 1) largest item
found, 2) largest number of trash
bags by an individual, 3)
largest number of trash bags by a
group, and 4) the most unique item
found. For the second year in a row,
DumontDuneRiders.com (DDR) won the
trophy for largest amount of bags by
a group. Great job guys!

Friends of Dumont Dunes
announcements

Vicki W, president of Friends of
Dumont Dunes, then explained the
importance of the recent threat to
Dumont because of the fringe toed
lizard
petition by the CBD. She wanted
all the duners to know that they
will need everyone's support and
that by becoming members of FoDD
this will help with the battle.
Along with some additional FoDD news
about their website and other items,
she also announced the nomination of
Stacey (Sin City Blondie) to the
FoDD board of directors for the
membership committee.
Yamaha generator raffle prize
It was then time for the big raffle
prizes. There was a Yamaha generator
donated by Kolbe Cycle Sales and a
nice stainless toolbox donated by
DDR members, Tom and Teresa out of
Yuma, AZ. Tickets were sold for
these items and all proceeds went
towards FoDD for the lizard
petition. Over 1600 tickets were
sold! Thanks to everyone who
supported this cause.
